{ Review + Swatches } Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks

It's no secret that Urban Decay is one of my favourite makeup brands. They probably make one of the best eyeshadows on the market so when I heard of the release of their Revolution Lipsticks, I definitely had to pick up a few. These lipsticks have been around for a while now and I actually purchased these some time last year so yup....a very late post indeed :p

There are currently 23 shades in the Revolution Lipstick line which range from your nudes, pinks, reds and plums so there's definitely a shade suited to everyones taste. These lipsticks contain a "nourishing blend of jojoba oil, avocado oil, cocoa butter and shea butter" keeping your lips "super moiturized and cushiony soft". Urban Decay describes their lipsticks as "creamy- delivers insane color payoff plus creamy shine", "long lasting- ...super creamy texture, insane pigmentation, superior color dispersion and extended wear" and "hydrating- ...defines and hydrates lips while making them look plumper and fuller".

I think Urban Decay's descriptions of their lipsticks are definitely on point! These unscented lipsticks are so creamy, highly pigmented and moisturising. They glide on your lips so effortlessly with very little slip and are particularly long lasting (especially the darker shades). They produce a beautiful shine and makes your lips look really luscious. The only description I don't agree with is about making your lips look fuller or plumper.

These lippies are encased in a sturdy and edgy gunmetal bullet, embossed with "Urban Decay". I love the weight of these lipsticks. Not too light or cheap feeling at all. One problem I had with these lipsticks was that the lipstick itself was not completely centred and I felt that it was not entirely secure (as shown in the photo below- you can see the uneven gaps around the tube). It made a concerning rattling noise when I shook it slightly, making me think that there might've been a break in the lipstick somewhere at the base. I've heard some people have experienced this problem too so I guess it's how they have manufactured it :/ These lipsticks have yet to break on me so I'm just guessing the lipsticks are just too loosely attached at the base. Not a deal breaker though...

Due to the rounded shape of these lipsticks and how intensely pigmented they are, they can be particularly hard and messy to apply, especially with the darker shades I have, "F-Bomb" and "Venom". I just find that it's harder to achieve a crisp and neat application with round-shaped lipsticks, especially around the cupids bow. That's where lip brushes come in handy!

I purchased "Naked" (pink-nude), "Turn On" (medium rose pink) and "F-Bomb" (cool toned red) first, followed by "Venom" (bright plum) which was hard to pass up seeing that I was on the hunt to find a lippy that was similar to MAC's Rebel. Now that I have both to compare, they are extremely similar in terms of colour but "Venom" has more shine to it.

L-R: Turn On, F-Bomb, Naked

Venom

Now onto the swatches! You can see how creamy these lippies are!

L-R: Turn On, F-Bomb, Naked, Venom

Pros:
  • Extremely pigmented
  • Creamy and smooth
  • Long lasting (mainly the darker colours- wears for about 5 hours)
  • Moisturising
  • Provides a nice shine without being sticky
  • Colour is very buildable
  • Unscented
  • Wide colour selection

Cons:
  • Round lipstick shape makes application a bit difficult particularly around cupids bow
  • Lipstick seems to be loosely attached at the base, rattles when shaken and not centred in the tube
  • Does not provide plumper or fuller looking lips as described on UD's website
  • Quite expensive (~$30AUD on BeautyBay)

What do you think of the Revolution Lipsticks? What are your favourite shades?
